Education and learning has been a big issue in every generation. The meaning of education, tutorship, teaching has never been clear in any era though. Schools with residential facilities have although tried to be in utmost competition to the day schools. Even though the difference lies in the education system of the two types of school, the products they yield are as much likely with each other. Residential schools nurture a sense of belongingness, peer and team playing attitude which by far is taken very seriously by its students; day schools inculcate winning attitude, leadership and all rounder growth. The focus of both the school types differs; however, students pick things which best appeals to them. Therefore, acknowledging stereotypes hasn’t been a deal in any of the schools. A recent study showed how many schools have encouraged the skill of self-directed learning. Self-directed learning is nothing but students gaining practical knowledge on their own.

Self-directed learning enhances practicality, independence and a friendly coaching habit. An article of reader’s digest dedicated its subject exclusively on this new concept of learning. Until now, self-directed learning has been involved in higher classes only. But the research and experimentation of this concept has developed a new wave in schools and colleges too. Many schools from different areas have opted self-directed learning and have seen voluminous results. Dynandeep English Medium School, a school from Wai with residential facilities and day school talks very highly of this concept. Mr. Yogesh Parchure, principal of DEMS quotes,”DEMS has always strived to give what is best for its students. The day school provides equilibrium in curriculum as well as physical development. Our motivation has driven the students of hostel as well as school to try their hand at everything. Hence we have been titled as the best school and have been awarded a cash prize and the title of best school in sports by Ministry of Sports. “Nilesh Chavan, Head of Administration and infrastructure, also adds to his quote that the development of the school infrastructure has been specifically thought about so that a complete growth of every ward has been taken into account.

Things like this have turned out to be very fruitful. Competing with schools in pachgani and other day schools from the region, DEMS has had an edge over them. The most influential and up-to-the mark school near Mumbai, Pune and Thane it has inculcated innovativeness towards their education and their students. Due to their constant efforts, even the students have started indulging the philosophy of self-directed learning. Not only in curriculum, but also in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, DEMS has been a worthy player.
