Business is all about people and people are all about communication. Communication is the building block of business be it any shape and size. Developing contacts and staying connected requires intense deliberation and consistent messaging. Interpersonal skills act as a cornerstone to move across minds and places. The very basic form of this skill is tested upon in group discussion and interview especially for employment. This also involves public speaking to an extent which is a must for any profession of the era. It adjudges and enhances self-confidence and self-esteem which is an important instrument for selling other skills in the job-market.

Interpersonal skills manifest itself in forms such as presentations, negotiation and many more that necessarily involves reaching agreement from arguments. Strengthening of the interpersonal skills helps in scaling up cultural exchanges, converts groups into teams, enhances bonding in teams, grooms personality and develops society by adding various facets of learning informally.

Interpersonal communication has another intricate angle to it, that is, emotional content. Until and unless emotions click and reciprocate, the bonding will exclude to emerge and the potential of it would remain underutilized and unexplored. At times, emotions may naturally surface while at other times, one may have to force upon to naturalize for emotional interaction.

Interpersonal skills are increasingly critical specially in management colleges because of the factors growing in rapid importance in most organizations these days. Technology has taken control of our lives and thoughts. Domains like social networking sites and 3G features have gradually and successfully replaced the need for physical sense of interactions. On the aspect of managing technology, social forecaster, John Naisbitt in 1982, cautioned, “Whenever new technology is introduced into society, there must be a counter-balancing human response-that is, high touch.” Though e-communications is a need and a norm today but the relevance of face-to-face conversation cannot be ignored.

The workplace is hurried. In order to equate between the dynamic demands placed on the people and the resource of time that every second indicates extinction, the modern method of getting more work done in less time is by being associated.

One of the ways to manage multitude of relationships in time-stricken parameter is to prudently allocate time. Our life is an assortment of endeavors of many people. Thus, all are relevant for life. But when time is at premium, one cannot afford to waste time through incomplete, inaccurate, or ineffective communication. Thus, excellence in interpersonal skills enables you to make the best use of the time you spend on interacting with people.

While relationships are not at our disposal but time is. Thus, in this given equation, relationships remain as a constant and time as a variable.  Excellence in interpersonal skills would help us to shoot two birds with a single arrow. Primarily, it sorts out the differences and confusion. Secondly, moving away from decisions taken in ivory tower, open-ended discussions unwraps the mind and leads us to conclusion in the otherwise life brimming with loads of work and confusion.
